Why Callie Smith/Catherine Parenteau forfeit the Women’s Pro Semi Final match with Leigh and Anna Leigh Waters:
“To shed a little light on what happened, this tournament wasn’t originally supposed to be a championship Sunday format when Catherine and I signed up for it. At that point in time, it’s tough to find another partner to play with, as most everyone is already partnered and registered.
That being said, Catherine was gracious enough to withdraw from the semi-final match in the main draw, which allows there to be a broadcast match on Sunday, and was willing to forfeit that match in order to go into the back draw and play for bronze. We ended up playing Lindsay Newman and Corrine Carr to then advance to the bronze medal match where we then played Irina and Jessie for the bronze.
I understand that many people don’t (and won’t) understand my decision, but am grateful to Catherine who was still willing to play with me given the circumstances.” (Scott Golden Facebook post)
"Interesting story. Callie Smith does not play on Sundays for religious reasons. This means she normally does not sign up for events that take place on Sunday!
