Press Release: Mayor Of Pickleball Case Dismissed

Press Release (DENVER, CO)

TODAY – May 11, 2022, Mr. Guney- the Mayor of Pickleball - appeared for his Second Criminal Advisement in the case of People of Colorado v. Arslan Guney, case number 22CR1657 – otherwise known as #GoofUpGate.

The Mayor of Pickleball and the City of Denver reached a Settlement Agreement with the following conditions:

1. Mr. Guney will pay one-half of Denver’s estimate to remove his Sharpie marks and to re-screen and coat the entire gymnasium floor, which Denver estimates to be $4,672.29, to Denver on or before June 1, 2022.

2. As part of this Agreement, on May 10, 2022 Mr. Guney submitted a written apology for his actions to the Denver Department of Parks and Recreation.

3. Denver agrees to reinstate Mr. Guney’s membership to all Denver Parks and Recreation Centers and Facilities as it existed before March 15, 2022. Mr. Guney agrees to dismiss his Notice of Appeal of Denver Parks & Recreation Citation, Code Violations, Notification of Change of Membership Status, Indefinite Suspension and Exclusion of Arslan Guney and Request for In Person Administrative Hearing which he filed with Denver on March 29, 2022 within five business days of this Agreement being fully executed.

4. Denver agrees to recommend to the Denver District Attorney’s Office that no criminal charges be filed against Mr. Guney related to his placing Sharpie marks on the gymnasium floor of the Central Park Recreation Center on March 14, 2022.

Today – the Denver District Attorney’s Office rejected the criminal filing of Felony Criminal Mischief, the Case was Dismissed and Mr. Guney’s Arrest Record was sealed.

The #1 Ranked Professional Pickleball Women’s Singles Player in the World Anna Leigh Waters, 15, won her 10th pro singles title Sunday at the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Riverland Open and first Triple Crown. A Triple Crown is when a player wins titles at the same tournament in Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

The teenage superstar defeated Lea Jansen in the championship match: 11-2,11-8,11-0.

• Do you have a formal pickleball coach?
  Not Really. My mom is my only coach. She helps me and travels with me.

• What living person do you most admire?
  My mom. She is the best mom I could ever ask for. She takes care of me.

• What are your future plans?
  I would like to play pickleball in the Olympics. I would like to be a part of that. As for life in general, if the opportunity is there, go take it. I haven't decided about college yet. I want to see where pickleball takes me. Right now, I am riding the pickleball wave. My goal is to get more juniors to play the sport.

71-Year-Old ‘Mayor Of Pickleball’ Turns Himself In On Felony Warrant 

DENVER, CO USA (CBS4) – A 71-year-old Denver man deemed the “Mayor of Pickleball” has turned himself in to face felony charges for criminal mischief. Arlsan Guney is accused of using a permanent marker to indicate pickleball boundaries on a Denver recreational center floor.

In junior tennis, especially, you just have to be so tough

because there's no refs a lot of the time

and so there's a lot of cheating

and other things

and unfortunately

I think that weeds out a lot of the young talent

who kind of have a bit of a toughness
