2023 APP Chicago Open is being held in Highland Park

Pickleball Fever Sweeps Chicago: Alix Truong Talks Strategy and Success

Chicago's Largest Pickleball Tournament Showcases Rising Star
Chicago, IL — In the heart of Highland Park, Chicago, a sporting phenomenon has taken hold, and it's not what you might expect. The Pickleball craze has swept through the Windy City, culminating in the grand spectacle of the 2023 Chicago Open. With over 800 participants, this tournament is the largest in Chicago's history, and at the center of this whirlwind is an 18-year-old sensation, Alix Truong.
Pickleball, a sport often described as a hybrid between tennis and ping pong, has been gaining immense popularity due to its accessibility and inclusivity. Alix Truong, a young athlete with a bright future, graciously shared her journey into Pickleball during a recent interview on Fox 32 News Chicago.
"I started playing Pickleball around 15 or 16," Alix recounted. "I first started playing when the pandemic first hit in 2020. I signed up for my first tournament just after learning how to play at a local tennis court with my family, and from there, I really got into playing on the APP tour."
What sets Alix apart is her versatility. Before Pickleball, she dabbled in other sports, including tennis, soccer, and volleyball during her high school years. This diverse athletic background has undoubtedly contributed to her impressive skills on the Pickleball court.
With fierce competition at the Chicago Open, Alix is no stranger to the pressure. She revealed some of the formidable opponents she'll be facing: "This week, I have amazing partners. I'm playing with Vivian Glozman in women's doubles and Richard Livornese Jr. in mixed doubles. Here in our hometown, Chicago, Vivian and I need to knock off Megan Fudge DeHeart and Susannah Barr (Fudge Barr). They're going to be the number one seed this weekend, so they're going to be a tough team to beat, as well as Mari Hamberg and Allison Harris who took silver last week in Philadelphia. So, we're really looking out for everybody. It should be a really fun weekend."
As the tournament unfolds under the scorching Chicago sun, the weather becomes a factor. Alix mentioned, "The sun is always nice to have out. During our practices, it was a bit windy, so those are probably the adjustments everybody will have to make throughout the weekend. Nothing to complain about since we're all in the same environment."
When asked about advice for newcomers to Pickleball, Alix enthusiastically encouraged them: "Just get into the sport, pick up a paddle, and start playing at your local parks. It's an amazing community that we are all surrounded by. You can play at the 3.0 level to the 5.0 level, and you'll pick up a partner. Honestly, you'll be attached."
Alix's journey in Pickleball serves as an inspiring testament to the sport's growth and appeal. Her determination and passion are emblematic of the vibrant Pickleball community that has taken root in Chicago. With her eyes on the prize and unwavering enthusiasm, Alix Truong is undoubtedly a name we'll continue to hear in the world of Pickleball.
