Checotah, Oklahoma - The Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library is abuzz with excitement as it gears up to celebrate the grand opening of its two public Pickleball courts on June 29. In support of this pioneering initiative, Bread & Butter Pickleball Co., based in Vero Beach, Florida, has generously donated four high-quality Pickleball paddles to the library, reinforcing their commitment to promoting access and enjoyment of the popular sport.
The pickleball courts, the first-ever library-funded facilities of their kind in the nation, will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, independent of the library's regular operating hours. Equipped with lighting for evening play, the courts aim to provide opportunities for Pickleball enthusiasts to engage in the sport at their convenience. Furthermore, library cardholders will have the privilege of borrowing paddles and balls free of charge, ensuring accessibility for all community members.
Bread & Butter Pickleball Co.'s donation consists of four lightweight and family-friendly paddles, all USA Pickleball Approved. These state-of-the-art paddles feature polypropylene cores with carbon fiber faces, providing players with enhanced performance and durability. The donated paddles include the Topo Spear, Surge Spear, Verge Drip, and Vero Drip, catering to players of different skill levels.
Doug Sapusek, the founder of Bread & Butter Pickleball Co., expressed full support for the expansion of pickleball courts in various settings. Sapusek emphasized the significance of collaboration between local governments, organizations, and private enterprises to invest in dedicated pickleball facilities. Such initiatives are essential to accommodate the increasing number of casual and competitive players, further fostering the sport's growth.
The Jim Lucas Checotah Public Library expressed heartfelt gratitude for the generous pickleball equipment donation. Kenny Matthews, the branch manager, highlighted the positive impact these paddles would have on health literacy in Checotah and the surrounding communities. Recognizing that libraries offer a diverse range of services beyond books, Matthews emphasized the importance of partnerships with companies like Bread & Butter Pickleball Co., enabling the library to continue providing vital resources and activities to the community.
