Pickleball Academy Singapore "Pickleball Pioneers Episode 1

I'm David Teo Siong Boo, and I'd like to share my journey into the world of pickleball in Singapore. It all started back in 1991 when a friend of mine introduced me to this sport. He invited me to join him at the Kola Community Center. At the time, I was only 40 years old, and most of the players there were senior citizens. I couldn't participate in tournaments until I reached the age of 45, but I could still enjoy friendly games with them in the evenings after work.

The community center was open from 7 to 10 in the evening, giving us three hours to play. I made it a routine, playing three days a week with the senior citizens. To qualify as a senior, you had to be at least 45 years old. I started to bond with the players, and we encouraged each other not to give up, viewing pickleball as a form of exercise.

As time went on, I became more dedicated to the game and started coaching at schools. It's amazing to see how the sport has grown, with young people now playing alongside the older generation. Some players at the community center are even older than me, at 74 or 75 years old. I've had the pleasure of playing with them since 1998.

Pickleball has been a significant part of my life, and it has allowed me to make many friends from different parts of Singapore. We not only play the game but also exchange knowledge and experiences. It's this sense of camaraderie that keeps me passionate about pickleball. I'm proud to be a part of the Singapore pickleball community.
